My Changes
Quite a bit has happened!

1. How I Coach
Practice Instruction
Ski more- Talk less
To prove my Norwegian friend wrong, I made the worst decision possible, recording myself in practice.
In one single 90min practice, I charted 24 minutes of ‘instruction’.
What helps:
- Practice in advance what will be said,
- Build my activities to go too long,
- Let them find the knowledge!
Now I seek to be a sub 12 minuter.

Practice Design
What were the difference makers?
Designating more time to design. Finally making peace with what my job entails. Spend the required time to create a plan that has clear objectives, and tell the athletes (sometimes) what my objective is!
Ask why. After building, ask why I have structured so. Look at others practices, and wonder, how does that work? Ex. Foothills Nordic
Get Creative. Ex. September’s month of intensity

Use Your People!
They don’t have to be IST. I’ve learned to use the coach networks available to me to place our coaches into places they want to be for the best results.
Giving other coaches a chance to lead!

2. How I Develop Athletes
With Culture in Mind
How to have my athletes take ownership of their program and experience.
- U14 ‘Board’ of Directors, (My favourite work)
- There is always a place for fun in competition.

New Emphasis on the Data
Athletes should not only have access to an appreciable form for their progress, but I need to be proactive in when they get it to show them where they are.
Informed decisions are the best decisions!
